RFF Director Speaks to Capitol Press Room on New York Climate Superfund Act
Advocates Respond to Army Corps of Engineers’ Emergency Permits
Climate|April 08, 2025
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers published a list of projects that would qualify for “emergency” permits in response to President Trump’s declaration of a national energy emergency. David Bookbinder, the director of law and policy at EIP is quoted in the New York Times saying, “The Trump administration appears to be gearing up to use false claims of an ‘energy emergency’ to fast-track and rubber-stamp federal approvals for projects across the country that will be destructive to America’s wetlands, waterways and communities.”
Soon after the article was published, the list of fast-tracked projects was taken down from the Army Corp’s website. It seems likely that the Administration moved too quickly and tried to expedite every permit related to an energy project (including the geothermal system for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!), rather than just those for the oil and gas industry.
